The AR Vision Year Team 2012 is rolling. I (Allan) am with them in South Africa. After being in transit for over 24hrs we are exhausted but slowly recovering (see gallery above.)

It has been so good to see this team gel and mold together, getting comfortable with each other as each person finds their place. These folks are great. They are thoughtful, passionate and so eager to learn, all the right ingredients to make for an excellent year. This is why years ago I realized that I am NOT to convince people to go to Africa; they must already want to go. We are just here to facilitate that experience and growth.

It’s been neat to see how surprised they are, when people commend them for coming to Africa for “A YEAR, A WHOLE YEAR? That’s amazing!” On the surface it seems like a, “sure, why not” attitude. But dig deeper and you realize its really a, “my life is not my own” heart, that has allowed them to get here. It is also the dissipating fear when faith is exercised in action that has brought them this far and will propel them through the year. This is a good start. This is what it takes to do missions, this is what it takes to follow Jesus close.
