Prayer Letter February 2009

Earnestly praying at the graveyard

21 days of fasting with the Powerhouse Church, a huge going back to school party, a new lab and a well structured empowerment center... the year is off to a good start! There are so many stories to tell but I have space for one...in a nut shell; this last Sunday was powerful! The whole church marched to the grave yard down the street and sang and prayed that no more people come here to worship their ancestors, that no more babies be dedicated to the spirits. Prayers went up declaring "The Church of the Graveyard" closed in JESUS NAME!  Death and ancestral worship has a serious role in this community and true believes go to war on their knees against it. Many so called Christian churches are a mix of Biblical teachings and African spiritual beliefs (Syncatisim.)  But this Sunday God's people stepped up and it was powerful! To feel and see a short video of this visit our interns blogged about it. CLICK HERE

Prayer Requests

1. The first 8 days of February, our team will be traveling from Pretoria to Cape Town. We will meet with a few ministries along the way, but the trip is mostly for a break, and we have been looking forward to it for a long time… Please pray for traveling mercies, health (we all seem to get sick more often here than we are used to at home) and a great time together as a team.

2. Praise the Lord for a new computer lab! Nate Massey, a friend from the U.S. came and setup “NComputing”—which roughly means 2 computers 20 stations, and it’s all being done in new room, which was badly needed. The new lab is a huge step in the right direction. More on that to come!

3. God’s been challenging our understanding of the role of the Holy Spirit in equipping us for ministry. In the words of Adoniram Judson Gordon, “Instead of praying constantly for the descent of a divine influence there was now a surrender, however imperfect, to a divine and ever-present Being: instead of a constant effort to make use of the Holy Spirit for doing my work there arose a clear and abiding conviction that the true secret of service lay in so yielding to the Holy Spirit that he might use me to do his work…” We feel convinced of this sentiment, but need more practice toward making it real in our lives and ministry. We are not there yet, but feel desperate to be so.

AR and the Brown family hosted a going back to school party! Check out more crazy pics of the party on our Drop Shots page

We are thrilled to be partnering with you.
