Prayer Letter December 2008

annie & nfundo visiting house to house

Avuwani, (Hello in Venda)

It's the month of Christmas, but my mind refuses to fully accept it. It's become increasingly HOT and rainy around here, I have heard few Christmas carols, and there is simply a general lack in terms of store decor, lighted trees, or gingerbread. And so it is revealed what I associate with the holiday. Maybe I will experience a healthy Christmas detox this year, and experience it anew. One thing is certain, we miss all of you an extra lot this month, as it feels like the time to be with everyone we love.

The month has been busy, but good. On our weekly rounds of visiting homes in the township to pray & deliver food, we visited a sangoma (or "traditional healer," aka, witch doctor). These guys have a lot of power in the community. And they are for real in bed with the enemy. he had his herbs and barks drying around him as we visited. He was a sharp, smart guy, with good questions..."what's behind this food? what do you want from me? Is God the force I feel leading me as I choose medicines? Who does God choose? If I'm a witch doctor, does God still want me? Pray for me that I can understand God."...and so, Allan got to pray for this witch doctor, that he would understand God. That was a special privilege.

Prayer Requests

This month we ask you to pray:

  • Thanks to the Lord, the latest business and computer classes have successfully finished! Over 50+ students have completed their 3 month classes!!!

  • Starting this month, through the end of our time here, we have various visitors and church groups coming through, that we will be hosting. It's a great privilege to share our life here with people who sacrifice to come. It's also important that we keep our focus, rhythm, and work going strong. (mom & dad come in April!!!!)

  • We need to replace ourselves for next year! We have a woman seriously considering moving here to be our internship director. We also need interns. As of this month, we have our first committed intern for next year! We want at least 9 more.

We are excited to be partnering with you.
